Forecasting airborne pollen concentration time series with neural and neuro-fuzzy models
نویسندگان
چکیده
Forecasting airborne pollen concentrations is one of the most studied topics in aerobiology, due to its crucial application to allergology. The most used tools for this problem are single lineal regressions and autoregressive models (ARIMA). Notwithstanding, few works have used more sophisticated tools based in Artificial Intelligence, as are neural or neuro-fuzzy models. In this work, we applied some of these models to forecast olive pollen concentrations in the atmosphere of Granada (Spain). We first studied the overall performance of the selected models, then considering the data segmented into intervals (low, medium and high concentration), to test how they behave on each interval. Experimental results show an advantage of the neuro-fuzzy models against classical statistical methods, although there is still room for improvement. 2006 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Evaluation of the Neuro-Fuzzy and Hybrid Wavelet-Neural Models Efficiency in River Flow Forecasting (Case Study: Mohmmad Abad Watershed)
One of the most important issues in watersheds management is rainfall-runoff hydrological process forecasting. Using new models in this field can contribute to proper management and planning. In addition, river flow forecasting, especially in flood conditions, will allow authorities to reduce the risk of flood damage. Considering the importance of river flow forecasting in water resources ma...
متن کاملAN EXTENDED FUZZY ARTIFICIAL NEURAL NETWORKS MODEL FOR TIME SERIES FORECASTING
Improving time series forecastingaccuracy is an important yet often difficult task. Both theoretical and empirical findings haveindicated that integration of several models is an effectiveway to improve predictive performance, especiallywhen the models in combination are quite different. In this paper,a model of the hybrid artificial neural networks andfuzzy model is proposed for time series for...
متن کاملThe use of wavelet - artificial neural network and adaptive neuro fuzzy inference system models to predict monthly precipitation
Precipitation forecasting due to its random nature in space and time always faced with many problems and this uncertainty reduces the validity of the forecasting model. Nowadays nonlinear networks as intelligent systems to predict such complex phenomena are widely used. One of the methods that have been considered in recent years in the fields of hydrology is use of wavelet transform as a moder...
متن کاملComparative Study of Static and Dynamic Artificial Neural Network Models in Forecasting of Tehran Stock Exchange
During the recent decades, neural network models have been focused upon by researchers due to their more real performance and on this basis, different types of these models have been used in forecasting. Now, there is a question that which kind of these models has more explanatory power in forecasting the future processes of the stock. In line with this, the present paper made a comparison betw...
متن کاملA NEW APPROACH BASED ON OPTIMIZATION OF RATIO FOR SEASONAL FUZZY TIME SERIES
In recent years, many studies have been done on forecasting fuzzy time series. First-order fuzzy time series forecasting methods with first-order lagged variables and high-order fuzzy time series forecasting methods with consecutive lagged variables constitute the considerable part of these studies. However, these methods are not effective in forecasting fuzzy time series which contain seasonal...
